In a significant step towards climate action, the Vice President of The Republic of The Gambia, Mohammed B.S Jallow, attended the Pre-COP workshop on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the Bakadaji Hotel. The workshop, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, marked a crucial milestone in The Gambia's preparations for its participation in the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, known as COP28, scheduled to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 30 to December 12, 2023.

During the workshop, Vice President Jallow emphasized the importance of addressing the pressing climate challenges of our time, fostering collaboration, and ensuring social equity and representation as top priorities in The Gambia's plan for COP28.

He also expressed his gratitude towards the Honourable Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, Rohey John-Manjang and her team, for their exceptional efforts in securing a pavilion and office space for The Gambia at this year's climate summit, generously provided by the Government of the United Arab Emirates. This achievement is a historic milestone for The Gambia's participation in climate summits, and it is expected to significantly enhance the country's visibility by showcasing its accomplishments in the fight against climate change and hosting side events to highlight its achievements.

Vice President Jallow took a moment to acknowledge the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for sponsoring the event and emphasized the importance of their continued collaboration and partnership.

The Honourable Minister of Environment delivered welcoming remarks during the workshop, underlining the significance of the event as The Gambia prepares to participate in COP28. She stressed the importance of participants understanding the conference's significance, the government's priority areas, and bilateral opportunities available, making the Pre-COP workshop a crucial stepping stone in their preparation.

The Pre-COP workshop provided a valuable platform for participants to delve into climate change issues in The Gambia, understand COP processes, including negotiations, bilateral meetings, and side events, among other critical aspects.
