On Thursday, November 9th 2023, The Vice President of The Gambia, His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow welcomed the Board of Governors from the Regional Maritime University (RMU) based in Accra, Ghana, during their courtesy call at the State House, Banjul. The visit served as an opportunity for the delegation to update the Vice President on recent activities undertaken by RMU in the region.
Leading the delegation, the Honourable Minister for Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah, who also serves as the current Chairperson of the RMU Board of Governors, highlighted that The Gambia is a fully paid member of RMU, with approximately 35 Gambian students currently enrolled. Additionally, he described VP Jallow as an accomplished educationist with a keen awareness of educational issues both within and beyond the nation.
Established as one of the oldest maritime training universities, RMU is jointly owned by The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, and Cameroon, specializing in maritime and maritime-related training.
Dr. Jethro W. Brooks, Jr., the Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU, expressed his pleasure at meeting Vice President Jallow and shared that this year marks the school's 65th anniversary and 40 years of regionalization.
Vice President Jallow assured the continuous support of the Gambia Government in providing quality tertiary and higher education opportunities to all citizens.
