His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, on Wednesday, 30 July received in audience a high-powered delegation from the Senegalese Armed Forces at his office at the State House in Banjul.
The delegation was led by Lieutenant General Philip Henri Alfred DIA, Inspector General of the
Senegalese Armed Forces, who is on an official mission to assess the condition and performance of
Senegalese troops deployed in The Gambia under the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG).
In his remarks, Lieutenant General DIA conveyed warm fraternal greetings from the President of the
Republic of Senegal and expressed appreciation to the Government of The Gambia for its continued
partnership and warm hospitality. He explained that his visit, mandated by the Senegalese Head of
State, aimed to inspect the welfare and operational conditions of Senegalese personnel stationed in The
Gambia, including those serving under ECOMIG and the Defence Attaché at the Senegalese Embassy in
Banjul.
“We are pleased with the professionalism, discipline, and experience our troops have demonstrated
while serving in The Gambia,” Lieutenant General DIA remarked. “However, our mission goes beyond
assessment—we are here to listen, to learn about the challenges our forces face, and to work with
Gambian authorities to identify solutions that benefit both our nations.”
Vice President Jallow welcomed the delegation and expressed deep appreciation for Senegal’s
unwavering support in promoting peace and security in The Gambia. He commended the Senegalese
Armed Forces for their professionalism and their significant role in upholding regional stability.
“The Gambia values its strong and historic relationship with Senegal,” the Vice President stated. “Our
cooperation in the areas of security and defence continues to serve the best interests of our peoples
and the sub-region at large.”
The visit concluded with a renewed commitment to enhanced military collaboration, mutual respect,
and the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two West African neighbours.
The courtesy call underscored the shared vision of The Gambia and Senegal in maintaining regional
peace, and highlighted the important role of military diplomacy in reinforcing that bond.
