His Excellency Mohammed B. S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, on Tuesday, 2 September received a high-level delegation from the Grand Rassemblement des Artisans du Sénégal at the State House in Banjul.
The meeting centered on strengthening regional economic cooperation through the promotion of artisanship, youth empowerment, and sustainable development in the Senegambia subregion.
Speaking after the discussions, delegation head Mr. Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Sowe highlighted the crucial role artisans play in advancing economic growth and creating opportunities for young people. He stressed that by promoting skills development and entrepreneurship, artisanship can help reduce irregular migration and foster self-reliance.
Mr. Sowe further noted that platforms such as the Gambia–Senegal Trade Fair are essential in showcasing local creativity, talent, and innovation. Such initiatives, he said, not only boost cross-border trade but also deepen cultural bonds between the two nations.
“Africa should be built by Africans,” Mr. Sowe remarked, urging both governments to continue supporting artisans in their shared quest for progress and integration.
The visit underscores the commitment of The Gambia and Senegal to promoting homegrown solutions that drive economic transformation and regional cooperation.
