In a solemn and patriotic ceremony, His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, on Sunday led the 2025 Remembrance Day Parade in honour of the soldiers who paid the ultimate price during the First and Second World Wars.
The event, held at McCarthy Square in Banjul, brought together cabinet ministers, senior government officials, top security officers, members of the diplomatic corps, and the general public. United in reflection, they paid tribute to the gallant men who served and sacrificed their lives for peace and global stability.
Vice President Jallow, who laid the commemorative wreath on behalf of President Adama Barrow, reaffirmed The Gambia’s enduring gratitude to its fallen heroes.
Speaking to the press shortly after the ceremony, the Vice President described the occasion as a moment of deep reflection and national pride.
“First of all, we thank God,” he said. “This is an opportunity to honour the fallen soldiers, particularly those who served from the First World War. These are men who sacrificed their lives for the peace and security of our nation and the world. This is why we are here—on behalf of His Excellency the President—to show our deepest respect.”
The commemoration featured military salutes, the traditional laying of wreaths, and moments of silence in honour of Gambian veterans and allied forces who fought in global conflicts.
For many in attendance, the ceremony served as a poignant reminder of The Gambia’s proud contribution to global peace and the bravery of those who never returned home.
As the nation continues to uphold its commitments to peace and security, the 2025 Remembrance Day Parade stood as a reaffirmation of a collective national vow — that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
