The Gambia and Senegal have reaffirmed their dedication to deepening bilateral ties and advancing regional integration, following high-level talks between His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of The Gambia, and Her Excellency Mariam Sey, the new Senegalese Ambassador to The Gambia.
Ambassador Sey paid her first official visit to the Vice President at State House in Banjul on Tuesday, 12 August since assuming her diplomatic post. The meeting was marked by warm exchanges and a shared commitment to strengthening the historic and cultural bonds that unite the two nations.
In her remarks, Ambassador Sey expressed appreciation for the Vice President’s hospitality, describing the encounter as an opportunity to reinforce mutual trust and explore new avenues of cooperation. She stressed that enduring relationships are built from the grassroots, starting with the younger generation. Highlighting the presence of many Senegalese students spending their summer holidays in The Gambia, she said such cultural interactions form a solid foundation for future unity.
The Ambassador also called for expanded collaboration in key sectors, including media, culture, trade, business, and the free movement of people and goods, as well as enhanced shared services to boost economic development.
She commended Vice President Jallow’s dedication to strengthening bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The visit signals a renewed determination by both Banjul and Dakar to reinforce unity, deepen integration, and promote sustainable development across the region.
