VP Jallow had his Primary and Higher teacher’s certificates from the Gambia College in 1985 and 1988, respectively. In 1991, he earned his first Degree, BA Honours in Education, specialising in Mathematics, from the University of Bristol, UK. Four years later, in 1995 gained a Master’s Degree in Education and specialised in Educational Planning and Statistics from the University of Bristol, UK.
Work Experience
Mohammed B.S Jallow started as an unqualified teacher in 1980. As a Primary School Teacher, he taught all subjects on the curriculum until 1988, when he specialised in teaching Mathematics and Science. By 1992, Jallow held the position of Education Planner/Statistician, got involved in the Collection, Collation and Analysis of Educational Statistics, and three years later became a Principal Planner. Rising the administrative cadre, Mr Jallow became Director of the Information Technology and Human Resources at the Ministry of Education. Technical adviser to Senior Management on staffing, training and ICT issues in 1998 and five year on in 2003, he became the Director of Planning, Ministry of Education and technical adviser to Senior Management on staffing, training and ICT issues. Until he was appointed Vice President of The Republic of The Gambia, Mr Jallow was Deputy Executive Director at the Senegalo-Gambia Secretariat, responsible for The Gambia. Mr Jallow’s professionalism in project management and facilitation of Goal Oriented Project Planning and Strategic Choices in Education between 1997- 2007 earned him awards and recognition from the World Bank Washington DC, RIPA, UK and Brussels, Belgium. Mr Jallow contributed to the design, implemented an Educational Management Information System (EMIS), and introduced a staff appraisal system. The project also developed a Geographical Information System which digitally represented all schools and related data to enable management to take more informed decisions on issues of school mapping. He also held vital responsibilities and contributed to the EDUCATION FOR ALL (EFA) Campaign, annual reviews of education expenditures to establish whether resources match policy pronouncements. He also contributed significantly to the revised Education policy in 1995 and, subsequently, developed a master plan which spelt out the inputs and cost of all the strategies to implement the policy. A team member that prepared the 2004 -2015 Education Policy Coordinated the 2016 – 2030 Education Policy development, the Mid-Term Plan 2008 to 2011, and the Education Sector Strategic Plan 2006 to 2015, amongst other works he did. Working at the Office of the President as Permanent Secretary of Policy Coordination and Head of the Civil Service earned him experience managing, coordinating and monitoring the Civil Service and dealing with state-owned enterprises.
