VP Jallow Signs Condolence Book in Honour of Late Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari

The Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, on Friday, July 18 signed the book of condolence at the Nigerian High Commission in Banjul, following the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
Accompanied by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians
Abroad, Mr. Sering Modou Njie, Vice President Jallow delivered a heartfelt message on behalf of
President Adama Barrow, the Government, and the people of The Gambia. He extended sincere
condolences to the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during this time of
mourning.
In his tribute, Vice President Jallow described the late Muhammadu Buhari as a revered African
statesman who embodied the ideals of integrity, peace, and pan-African unity. He highlighted Buhari’s
significant contributions to the continent, particularly his vital role during The Gambia’s 2016 political
impasse.
“President Buhari was a principled and dedicated leader who stood firmly for democracy and peace
across the continent. His intervention during The Gambia’s 2016 political transition was critical in
safeguarding our peace and democracy. We remain indebted to his legacy,” said VP Jallow.
He further noted that Africa had lost a great son, a man who earned respect not only within his own
country but also across the African continent and the international community.
The condolence book signing marked The Gambia’s formal expression of solidarity with Nigeria as the
country bids farewell to one of its most influential and steadfast leaders.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Vice President Jallow solemnly concluded.
